Once bacteria are in the kitchen, it's easy to see how they can spread from one thing to another.
     In this case, the preparer just finished cutting up some chicken, wiped the knife on the cloth in her hand, and then scrubbed off the cutting board with that cloth. Next, she's slicing up some fresh fruit for a salad. If we were able to see how the microorganisms travelled around, the flow would look like this:

    chicken --> knife --> wiping cloth -->

      cutting board --> fruit --> salad
